This course manual addresses the most basic didactic concepts related to teaching English as a foreign language. It is written by five TEFL specialists, each with expertise in diverse areas of the field. In this manual, each of the four basic communication skills are studied in depth, from the characteristics of the skill itself to how they might be taught and strengthened in the Secondary classroom in Spain. Then EFL materials and resources are discussed through their relative necessity and application in the classroom. Next, based on a generally communicative approach, sociolinguistic and pragmatic competences and learning and communicative strategies are described, including techniques for helping students acquire them. Finally, a hands-on, practical approach is taken with teaching subject content in English (CLIL). This manual is meant to be followed by EFL Teaching and Learning II, which completes the study of TEFL didactics.
